The ohiobiz story
Mark is founder and owner of ohiobiz, LLC, a website development and hosting company providing its clients peace of mind and confidence in their online presence by hosting and building secured, easy-to-use websites that help small businesses, professional firms, municipalities, and nonprofit organizations drive results on the web.
Since 2001, Mark has been building and hosting websites professionally, and has launched over a hundred client websites. He brings to each project a practical understanding of how the web works that can only be gained through years of experience. Mark takes great pride in offering excellent, prompt, and courteous service, to ultimately build long-term trust with his clients.
He has been on the local Internet scene as an Internet consultant to small businesses since the early 1990’s. For nearly six years, he was responsible for new business development at Netforce Development, Inc., a web development firm he co-founded in May 1995. Back in the early 90’s, he founded and led the Greater Cleveland PC Users’ Group Internet special interest group for over two years. For four years, he served as a part-time faculty member at Lakeland Community College, where he taught several Internet and Computer courses. Also, he taught an Intro to Computers course at Notre Dame College and Web-based Microsoft courses for the International Webmasters Association/HTML Writers Guild.
On Labor Day, 1995, he created Geyman’s Northern Ohio Directory of World Wide Web Sites which evolved into SitesOnline Ohio, a site with links to over 10,000 local sites, covering the state of Ohio. The main purpose of the site was to promote Ohio’s electronic community (it was a “labor of love” too!).
While at Netforce Development, Inc. beginning in 1997, Mark focused on search engine optimization for its clients. Over the years, Mark’s niche became building websites that were unique, functional, and usable. In 2010, he began working exclusively with the WordPress content management system as the development platform for client sites. Today, he combines his talents and the power of the WordPress platform to create sites that are secure and easy to use for both clients and visitors alike. He enjoys attending local/regional WordCamps to stay current on the latest industry changes/happenings.
Mark grew up in the Northwest Ohio community of Fostoria, attended St. Wendelin High School and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a B.A. in Speech Communications, minoring in marketing/sales.
He spent approximately eight years in the cable television industry. Additionally, he spent time as a sales consultant in the two-way radio communications field (Cleveland Mobile Radio) and as a researcher for Christian & Timbers (CTPartners), an executive search firm, specializing in the computer industry.
Besides staying up-to-date, daily, on the latest happenings in the Industry, he also enjoys meteorology and audio/video streaming technology!
Mark is passionate about promoting Ohio businesses throughout the whole state, in all settings – rural, suburban, and urban – and is currently working on a new iteration of the directory. Stay tuned!
